Toronto tap dance class at BDX Studio

These dancers really worked their ears!

In this Toronto tap dance class, we worked on counter rhythms and teamwork, just like a Tap Dogs show. There are four parts. And the most important aspect of this tap class? Listening. Really using your ears. That’s the most important skill a fantastic tap dancer needs to master.

Can you hear the different rhythms?

Free Tap Dance Lesson Warmup

Free Tap Dance Lesson Warmup!

I call this tap dance exercise “Can You Dig It!” It focuses on dig heels, weight transfer, pattern recognition, syncopation, and variations in the pattern when switching to other sides.

Slow the tap warm up down if you’re a beginner tap dancer or speed up the exercise to challenge your advanced skills. Best part about this exercise? It’s perfect for all tap dance levels.

We’ll be using this tap lesson at my Toronto dance studio Byfield Dance Experience (BDX) regularly in class.

Learn it, comment and enjoy!

I love vintage tap dance videos… check out this display of rhythm and tap dance love from 1933.

Four Outstanding Tap Dancers

Tap dance is truly such an amazing art form. You get to express through movement, be a percussive musician, and sweat your pants off when it’s all over! I’m loving this video.

If you’re in Toronto, come drop by my dance studio and let’s tap!

Tap Dance Lesson on TV

28 Apr

Want to learn how to tap dance? Here’s  a tap dance lesson from a television show I was on. The hosts had no tap dance training or experience, just a desire to learn!

I taught the hosts a very basic tap dance routine, and man, they were a blast. I literally taught this tap dance routine live on air, no pre-rehearsal. Fun times! Feel free to use the tap steps, and leave your comments on the video.
