Every year, May 25th is National Tap Dance Day, which honours the birthday of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. The left-footed tap dancer paved the way and opened the doors for Black entertainers to perform in film and stage.
This is now celebrated on an international scale, with tap dance classes, shows and events happening globally.
To celebrate in Toronto, expert tap dance choreographer Shawn Byfield is hosting Toronto’s official National Tap Dance Day Workshop for tap dancers aged 18 and up, on Saturday May 24th at Byfield Dance Experience, 819 Yonge Street, Toronto.
These Toronto Tap Classes Are PERFECT For You- Even If You’re Rusty As Heck And Haven’t Tap Danced In Years
Now’s the time.
If it’s been ages since you put your tap shoes on and you haven’t had the chance to throw down with us before, DON’T WORRY! After a few tap dance classes you’ll feel back up to speed. You’ll start remembering all the tap steps you used to master back in the day.
Byfield Dance Experience is Toronto’s favourite dance studio where people just like you come to get back in to it.
Oh, and heads up: We have tons of fun. Period. And there’s always a gem of wisdom to take away from each tap dance lesson in Toronto, and all of our dance classes.
By the way, if you’re looking for some exercise, Tap dancing is definitely the best damn “boot camp workout” for your brain and your body, just as much as your feet. It’s safe, fun, and the perfect workout for adults. So if you’re looking for exercise, it’s a hell of a lot more exciting than a run on the treadmill. =)
In this Toronto tap dance class, we worked on counter rhythms and teamwork, just like a Tap Dogs show. There are four parts. And the most important aspect of this tap class? Listening. Really using your ears. That’s the most important skill a fantastic tap dancer needs to master.
Can you hear the different rhythms?
